Deborah Cunningham is the Executive Director of the Memphis Center for
Independent Living, and the Tennessee Organizer for ADAPT (American Disabled for
Attendant Programs Today), and was interviewed by Laura Hershey about issues for
persons with disabilities in Tennessee, and particularly the need for more home
attendant services rather than nursing home care. She also discussed the
challenges of lobbying policymakers on these issues.

INTERVIEWS FOR THIRTEENTH ANNIVERSARY OF THE AMERICANS WITH DISABILITIES ACT
(ADA)
Dawn Russell and Anita Cameron, Denver activists with American Disabled for
Attendant Programs Today (ADAPT), talk about the impact of ADA on their own
lives as disabled women.
They also talk about the issue of in-home support serves as a more just
alternative to institutionalization, and about the MiCASSA legislation which
would make attendant services available to disabled people nationwide.
Russell and Cameron discuss plans for the ADAPT march in Philadelphia to
Washington DC. Finally, they comment on the leadership role of women in
disability-rights organizing. Laura Hershey conducted this interview in
Denver, Colorado, during the July 26 celebration of the ADA's 13 Anniversary.

Julie Reiskin is the Executive Director of the Colorado Cross-Disabilities
Coalition (CCDC), a statewide advocacy organization which promotes full
integration, opportunities and support for people with disabilities. Laura
Hershey interviewed Reiskin in Denver, Colorado, during the ADA anniversary
celebration on July 26, 2003, an event organized by CCDC. Reiskin talks
about the importance of the ADA, and the disability community's responsibility
to "use it or lose it." She discusses the strategies employed by CCDC,
including lawsuits, community organizing, and political involvement.

the Colorado Cross-Disability Coalition's Youth Program. In this
