CARTA ABIERTA A LAS COMPAñERAS FEMINISTAS DE AMÉRICA LATINA Y EL CARIBE
Desde Mama Cash hemos seguido atentamente y desde su comienzo la respuesta del movimiento feminista de América Latina y el Caribe frente a la crisis humanitaria
causada por el terremoto en Haití y hoy queremos compartir con ustedes así como con todas las personas que trabajan por los derechos de las mujeres en el mundo la profunda admiración que sentimos.
Mientras la ayuda oficial internacional se perdía en vericuetos burocráticos, las feministas latinoamericanas y caribeñas necesitaron menos de una semana para poner en marcha el campamento solidario Myriam Merlet (en honor a una líder feminista haitiana que murió a causa del terremoto) en la frontera con la República Dominicana junto con las organizaciones haitianas SOFA (Solidarity Fanm Ayisyen) y ENFOFAM (Organisation de Defense des Droits des Femmes).
Además están difundiendo información veraz sobre todos los detalles de la crisis incluyendo la situación de las compañeras feministas haitianas, donando recursos y saberes y, como no podía ser de otra manera, pensando y compartiendo lecturas políticas del desastre y sus consecuencias.
Entre estas acciones nos gustaría destacar la carta abierta de Las Petateras, Radio Internacional Feminista, AWID y JASS (Asociadas por lo Justo); la recolección de materiales y fondos que hicieron las Católicas por el Derecho a Decidir en Córdoba, así
como las acciones de solidaridad de la Red de Salud de las Mujeres en América Latina y el Caribe cuya directora, Nirvana González, viajó a República Dominicana para sumarse directamente al trabajo, junto con otras feministas puertorriqueñas entre las que se encuentran Ana Rivera Larseen (CLADEM) y María Suárez Toro (RIF)
Sabemos que la respuesta inmediata y efectiva que dio el movimiento feminista latinoamericano y caribeño ante la crisis no surge de la nada. Es el producto de muchos años de trabajo conjunto, de diálogos y diferencias, de Encuentros y redes, de confianzas construidas enfrentando juntas a las dictaduras y a los fundamentalismos en las calles, haciendo malabares con recursos que nunca alcanzan porque la región no es una prioridad para la mayoría de las agencias financiadoras y también por supuesto de bailes y de brindis.
Por intermedio de esta carta, desde Mama Cash queremos hacer llegar nuestra solidaridad, nuestro apoyo y nuestro reconocimiento muy especialmente a las feministas haitianas de SOFA y ENFOFAM, que transformaron su dolor en solidaridad y fuerza; a las compañeras de la Colectiva Mujer y Salud, de la República Dominicana, que crearon el campamento feminista en la frontera, y a su directora Sergia Galván que fue una de las primeras en hacerse presente en Haití para evaluar en forma directa cuáles eran las necesidades de las mujeres y de las niñas haitianas. Pero también queremos destacar y reconocer el aporte de todas las comunicadoras, activistas y académicas feministas, así como de nuestras hermanas de los fondos de mujeres de la región, que con su compromiso han hecho posible esta respuesta y que, como dice Sergia Galván en uno de los poemas que también se dio tiempo para escribir en estos días, están tendiendo una mano para calmar el horror/ayudando a curar las heridas de la miseria/infundiendo fuerzas para que el tiempo no se detenga .
Mama Cash se ha sumado a las iniciativas coordinadas del movimiento feminista, que estaremos apoyando económicamente y también en su difusión.
Gracias a las compañeras feministas de América Latina y el Caribe por el ejemplo y por la inspiración.

OPEN LETTER TO OUR FEMINIST SISTER IN LATIN AMERICAN AND THE CARIBBEAN
Amsterdam, January 27, 2010 Open letter to our feminist sisters in Latin America and the Caribbean In Mama Cash we have been following closely and from the very beginning the response of the Latin American and Caribbean feminist movement to the humanitarian crisis caused by the earthquake in Haiti and today we want to share with you all, as well as with all those working for women's rights around the world,
the deep admiration we feel.
While international official aid was getting lost in bureaucratic labyrinths, Latin American and Caribbean feminists needed less than a week to set up the solidarity camp Myriam Merlet (honouring a Haitian feminist leader who died in the earthquake) in the border with the Dominican Republic together with Haitian organizations SOFA
(Solidarity Fanm Ayisyen) and ENFOFAM (Organisation de Defense des Droits des Femmes). They are also sharing truthful and detailed information about the crisis including the situation of individual Haitian feminists, contributing with resources and knowledge of different types and, as expected, articulating and communicating political understandings of the disaster and its consequences. Among these actions we would like to highlight the open letter by Petateras, FIRE, AWID and JASS; the collection of materials and funds done by Catholics for a Free Choice-Córdoba as well as the solidarity actions undertaken by the Latin American and Caribbean Women's Health Network whose director, Nirvana González, travelled to the Dominican Republic to join in the efforts together with other Puerto Rican feminists like Ana Rivera Larseen (CLADEM) and María Suárez Toro (FIRE).
We know that the immediate and effective answer provided by the Latin American and Caribbean feminist movement in the crisis is not coming from a void. It is the product of many years of joint work, of dialogues and differences, of Encuentros and networks, of trust built confronting dictatorships and fundamentalisms in the streets, doing balancing acts with resources that are never enough because for most funders the region is not a priority, and also - of course!- of dancing and toasting together.
Through this letter, Mama Cash wants to convey our solidarity, our support and our recognition, particularly to the Haitian feminists from SOFA and ENFOFAM who have transformed their pain in solidarity and strength; and to our sisters in Colectiva Mujer y Salud, from the Dominican Republic, that established the relief camp in the border,
and to its director Sergia Galván, who was one of the first women to travel to Haiti to assess firsthand the needs of Haitian women and girls. But we also want to highlight and acknowledge the contributions of all the feminist media women, activists and academics, as well as of our sisters from the region's Women's Funds who made this response possible thanks to their commitment - to all those like, as Sergia Galván says in one of the poems she also found time to write on these days, are "lending their hands to soothe horrors/helping to heal scars caused by poverty/breathing in strength for time not to stop its course".
Mama Cash is joining the coordinated efforts of the international feminist movement with financial support as well as making public their critical and timely work.
